Paving A Path Forward
Clemans鈥 senior year at 糖心传媒 brought about a unique and unforeseen opportunity — singing and acting at the Amish Acres Round Barn Theatre in Nappanee, Indiana.聽
Her mom found out about the opportunity to perform at Amish Acres, but Clemans credits Professor Mike Yocum for connecting her with a master鈥檚 class that prepared her for her audition.聽
Clemans started performing last August and has been compensated for her appearances in 鈥淚nto the Woods鈥 as an evil stepsister and 鈥淗unchback of Notre Dame鈥 as a congregation member and narrator. When the shows are airing, Clemans performs in five shows every week, Thursday through Sunday.
Now that Clemans has graduated, she will continue to perform at the Round Barn while giving voice lessons full time through here in Warsaw.聽
Clemans looks back at the value of voice lessons in her own journey and cannot wait to provide the same structure and support as a music teacher to other developing vocalists.
鈥淰oice is such a unique instrument. It鈥檚 part of your body. It鈥檚 part of who you are. So if you鈥檙e going to train yourself in voice, you have to learn yourself. There are a lot of psychological processes that have to take place in order for you to overcome the barriers in your mind. I love helping people do that,鈥 she said.聽聽
From the very beginning, Clemans鈥 voice has been a means to connect — with her parents, her classmates, her professors, and with hundreds of strangers who fill the Round Barn Theatre on any given weekend. It is that connection with others that keeps her singing.聽
鈥淭he human voice is so important, and God intended it to be a means to bring us together,鈥 said Clemans. 鈥淭he way that voice evokes emotion and communicates story is such an important thing — such a human thing. I love connecting with people through that.鈥
