For the second straight year, ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½â€™s men’s tennis team will end its season as a national champion.
The Lancers successfully defended their national crown on Saturday, claiming the 2022 NCCAA national championship at the Mobile Tennis Center.
ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ defeated Judson 4-0 in the championship match, repeating the championship victory over the Eagles from 2021.
The Lancers secured their second national title in team history and the 10th overall championship in ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Athletics’ history. The team becomes the first squad at ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ to win back-to-back national championships.
The winning moment came from Nicolas Doria’s court. The newcomer defeated his opponent at No. 6 singles by the score of 6-2, 6-3, giving ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ the decisive fourth point and sending the Lancers into a celebratory moment on the courts.
Doria also was victorious in doubles, teaming up with Fabricio Galvan to win 6-4 at No. 2. The other doubles’ point was won by ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ at No. 1 thanks to the duo of Facundo Paredes and Ivan Antinori.
Paredes continued to cruise as ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½â€™s No. 1 singles player, beating his opponent 6-0, 7-5.
Pablo Gregori was the remaining singles’ victor, claiming a straight set 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4.
The Lancers end the season with an 18-12 record under head coach Andy Lewis.
